The inspiration for this song came to me when I completed a sentence using predictive text. Sounds odd I know, but the first part of the sentence was "My spirit guides tell me to ..." - and my predictive text ended it with "... write lyrics about who we are on the outside as opposed to who we really are".

I figured that was a great concept for a song, especially in these times of filters, fake profiles, social media poses and photoshopped images. In a world where young women all want to look the same, it can be very damaging to mental health and self esteem if you can't reach a certain level of glamour and skinniness. If that's even a word.

So the lyrics talk about the image we show to the outside world, when inside we feel insecure about being good enough and "fitting in".
